A wealth of Nature is all about us here at Oak Cottage. There are local woods and forests to explore on foot or by bike. There is one of the most beautiful and diverse coastlines in the country and at its centre the Minsmere nature reserve with its wild landscapes and open skies, a bird lovers paradise.
There are some wonderful beaches to explore, to swim, walk or fly a kite. Pebbles at Aldeburgh, sand at Southwold and shingle at shingle beach! There are also wonderful river walks too, you can’t beat the salty, muddy sea air.
Managed by the excellent Suffolk Wildlife Trust, this is one of our favourite woods in the area. It has a light, airy, peaceful atmosphere with ancient trees, fallow deer and one of the greatest expanses of bluebells in the county.
Rendlesham Forest Centre is the main recreation area for the Sandlings Forests, Heaths and the connected Sandlings Walks stretching from Bixley near Ipswich all the way up to Southwold.
There are many events throughout the year which are listed on the website and there is play equipment and circular cycle and walking routes through the forest.
