Walking
There are many wonderful walks in this part of Suffolk with its Nature Reserves (see Nature section), Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and from the historic villages of the Suffolk Heritage Coast (see Towns, Villages & Historic Sites section).
The many footpaths throughout the area, are covered in the 212 & 231 Explorer & 156 Landranger OS Maps (available from us on loan or to buy).
There are also more than 70 FREE Suffolk walks available from Discover Suffolk.
Cycling
This is the perfect place for a cycling holiday, with Bredfield being on the National Route 1, which can link up with the on road National Cycle Network along the coast. This passes through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The quiet country lanes and off-road routes provide a delightful cycling experience (Suffolk Cycle maps are available from us on loan or to buy). Alternatively, plan a route online with Cycle Streets. For those who want to bring their bikes for the excellent cycling in the area, one of our stables has lockable bike storage.Â

Sailing
Much of the character of the area is influenced by the sea and rivers and there are boat trips taking place from Orford and Walberswick (please see Towns, Villages & Historic Sites section).
Boat trips
There are delightful trips with ‘The Oystercatcher’ and ‘The Jahan’ from Waldringfield Boat Yard (from April to September t: 01473 736260) on the tranquil, wildlife rich River Deben to Ramsholt, Bawdsey Manor, Woodbridge and Sutton Hoo.

Dinghies and canoes
For those with their own sailing dinghies and canoes, there is a wealth of beautiful unspoilt estuaries and rivers.

Alton Water Sports Centre, Sutton
Based in 400 acres of beautiful Suffolk countryside, Alton Water offers sailing, windsurfing and canoeing for members and day access for visitors. They also have an excellent RYA training centre. t: 01473 328408
